Understand the process
A webhook is an incoming request sent when an event occurs, such as a form submission or booking. It can start a workflow without repeatedly checking for changes. The receiving endpoint still needs authentication, validation and a plan for repeated deliveries.

How to approach the implementation
Agree the event contract
Document the method, payload shape, event identifier and expected response. Obtain a sample from the sending system rather than assuming field names.
Test the receiving endpoint
Use the n8n test webhook while listening for an event, then use the production address when publishing the workflow. Keep credentials out of browser-delivered code.
Verify and deduplicate
Use the sender’s supported authentication or signature verification approach. Track event IDs in a durable store and make repeated delivery safe.
Handle acknowledgements carefully
A response saying an event was received is not necessarily proof that all downstream work finished. Record processing status and define recovery for accepted events that later fail.

Watch out for
Webhook delivery order and retries depend on the sender. Design for repeated or delayed events unless its contract guarantees otherwise.
