Compare operating responsibilities before choosing where your workflows run.
Understand the process
The hosting choice affects who handles the platform, access and recovery. Managed hosting reduces the infrastructure work your team takes on. Self-hosting gives you deployment control but requires someone to maintain and protect the installation. Neither option removes the need to maintain your business integrations.

How to approach the implementation
List your constraints
Record which systems must be reached, where business data may be processed and who will operate the workflows. Private-network systems may need additional connectivity planning.
Assign operational ownership
For self-hosting, assign responsibility for updates, TLS, database operations, backup restoration and availability. Check current n8n Cloud terms and plan capabilities for managed hosting.
Estimate the complete cost
Consider the n8n subscription or infrastructure, integration subscriptions, AI usage if relevant, implementation and ongoing support. Request current pricing when scoping the project.
Prove recovery and handover
Agree who owns the accounts and how the workflow can be restored or transferred. Test the recovery process before depending on it for daily work.

Watch out for
An inexpensive server does not by itself make an operationally reliable service. Include maintenance time and recovery requirements in the decision.
