Understand the report

Four signals. One clearer SEO benchmark.

Authority metrics become useful when you compare relevant competitors, evaluate link opportunities and follow long-term trends.

01

Domain Authority

Moz’s 1–100 estimate of a root domain’s relative ability to rank in search results.

02

Page Authority

A separate estimate focused on the ranking potential of the exact URL checked.

03

Link profile

Review linking root domains and inbound links recorded in Moz’s link index.

04

Spam Score

A Moz percentage based on characteristics associated with sites that have received penalties—not a Google penalty itself.

How to use it

A better way to read DA.

1

Check the correct target

Use a root domain for site-wide DA. Enter a complete article or landing-page URL when you also want meaningful PA for that page.

2

Compare like with like

Benchmark against websites competing in your subject and market. Comparing a local business with a global publisher creates little useful insight.

3

Investigate the links behind the score

More links are not automatically better. Prioritise relevant, editorially earned links from trustworthy websites and strong topical content.

4

Track direction, not daily noise

Recheck monthly and record meaningful changes alongside referring-domain growth, organic visibility and conversions.

Authority questions

Moz DA Checker FAQs

What is Domain Authority?+

Domain Authority (DA) is a Moz score from 1 to 100 that estimates how likely a root domain is to rank in search results. It is most useful as a comparative SEO metric.

Is Domain Authority a Google ranking factor?+

No. Domain Authority is created by Moz and is not used by Google as a ranking factor. Use it to compare link profiles and monitor relative SEO strength, not as a guarantee of rankings.

What is a good Domain Authority score?+

There is no universal good score. Compare your DA with sites competing for the same topics and audience. A smaller specialist website can perform well without matching the score of a large publisher.

What is the difference between DA and PA?+

Domain Authority evaluates the ranking potential of an entire root domain, while Page Authority estimates the ranking potential of an individual page.

How often does Domain Authority change?+

DA can change as Moz updates its link index and scoring model, and as your site or competing sites gain and lose links. Compare trends over time rather than reacting to one check.

How can I improve Domain Authority?+

Publish genuinely useful content, earn relevant editorial links, strengthen internal linking, keep important pages crawlable and address spammy link-building practices. There is no legitimate instant DA shortcut.
