CODE 128, EAN-13, UPC-A, EAN-8 or CODE 39?
CODE 128 supports a wide range of characters and works well for warehouse, inventory and asset labels. EAN-13 and UPC-A are common on retail products. EAN-8 is intended for shorter retail identifiers, while CODE 39 is still used in some industrial and identification workflows.
Important note about retail product numbers
Creating an image does not create an official retail identity. If a product will enter retail distribution, obtain the correct GTIN through GS1 or the authorised organisation for your market. Entering an invented number can conflict with another registered product.
Tips for a barcode that scans reliably
- Use dark bars on a plain, light background.
- Keep clear space on both sides of the barcode.
- Do not stretch or compress the downloaded artwork.
- Use SVG when the design will be resized significantly.
