How to generate and download an SVG barcode
- Select the barcode format required by your inventory or labelling workflow.

SVG or PNG: which barcode download should you choose?

SVG is a file format, not a barcode symbology. The same CODE 128 or EAN-13 value can be exported as either SVG or PNG; the download format does not change the number encoded.
CODE 128, EAN-13, UPC-A, EAN-8 or CODE 39?
CODE 128 supports a wide range of characters and works well for warehouse, inventory and asset labels. EAN-13 and UPC-A are common on retail products. EAN-8 is intended for shorter retail identifiers, while CODE 39 is still used in some industrial and identification workflows.
Why does my barcode value show an error?
The value must match the selected barcode format. EAN and UPC need numeric values with the correct length and check digit; CODE 39 accepts a narrower character set than CODE 128. Switching formats loads an example so you can test the download. Replace that example with your own valid identifier before using the result.
Important note about retail product numbers
Creating an image does not create an official retail identity. If a product will enter retail distribution, obtain the correct GTIN through GS1 or the authorised organisation for your market. Entering an invented number can conflict with another registered product.
Tips for a barcode that scans reliably
- Use dark bars on a plain, light background.
- Keep clear space on both sides of the barcode.
- Do not stretch or compress the downloaded artwork.
- Use SVG when the design will be resized significantly.
- Print a sample and scan it using the actual equipment before production.

What is an SVG barcode?
An SVG barcode is a vector image of a barcode, built from shapes rather than a fixed grid of pixels. It stays sharp when resized proportionally, but the final printed size and clear margins still need to suit your scanner and application.
Can I copy the barcode as SVG code?
Yes. Generate a valid barcode, then choose Copy SVG code to copy its markup. If your browser blocks clipboard access, download the SVG file and open it in a text editor instead.
Can I use the SVG barcode in design software?
Download the SVG and import it into a design application that supports SVG. Keep its proportions and clear margins, and check the final printed label with your scanner. The text uses Arial, so its appearance can vary if that font is unavailable.
Does this tool generate barcodes offline?
Generation runs locally after the page and its scripts have loaded, so the open page can continue generating and downloading barcodes without a connection. This is not an installable offline app; loading or refreshing the website may require internet access.
