Break-even assumes the same conversion, prices, ad yield and cost per user at every scale.
Before tax and financing. Illustrative assumptions, not earnings forecasts, market benchmarks or a development quotation. Revenue is not cash received. Fractional subscribers represent an expected average. What the calculator measures
| Measure | Formula |
|---|---|
| Subscription revenue | Active users × paying share × monthly price |
| Advertising revenue | Active users × average served impressions × publisher eCPM ÷ 1,000 |
| Marketplace revenue | Active users × average transaction value per user × commission rate |
| Payment fees | Subscription revenue × subscription fee + full marketplace transaction value × processing rate |
| Operating profit | Total revenue − payment fees − per-user operating costs − fixed operating costs − acquisition budget |
| Break-even users | Fixed operating costs plus acquisition budget, divided by positive contribution per user; rounded up |
| Simple payback | Initial development investment ÷ positive monthly operating profit |
Marketplace transaction value belongs partly to sellers; only your commission counts as revenue. The model assumes your business bears the payment cost on the full transaction value. If the seller bears that cost, adjust the processing field accordingly.
Ad impressions are averaged across all active users. If subscribers see no ads, reduce that average to avoid counting advertising they will not see. The publisher eCPM input should already reflect the ad network's share.
Use scenarios, then measure reality
Run a lower conversion and higher cost scenario before choosing a build budget. The initial numbers are arbitrary examples, not expected results for India or any app category. Paying users, retention, acquisition and ad yield are not predicted by this tool.
